Donkey

These 'wild' donkeys were roaming the alpine hillsides not far from the Gran Paradiso mountain (4061m) in Italy in 1980. We (my climbing friend and I) came across the donkeys on route to our intended climb of the Gran Paradiso, having just crossed the French-Italian border (3000m) with heavy packs. Exhausted we eventually abandoned our plan to climb the Gran Paradiso and instead spent time relaxing in a nearby valley. I say wild donkeys because although they were bridled there was no fencing containing them or any sign of farm buildings in the vicinity.
